I applied online. I interviewed at U.S. Trading (Oakland, CA) in Apr 2021
Interview
A contractor (Graphic Designer) for U.S. Trading Company reached out to me for an interview for the position. Had a Zoom interview with him and 3 other people including the Lead Graphic Designer. After the zoom interview, they reach out with a test where I needed to redesign the packaging of a product. After they contacted me again for another zoom interview to explain my redesign concept to them. They critique and gave me feedback on the design. Then they asked me questions that were totally random and had nothing to do with role or design. Along with answering some questions on Asian business etiquette. I kind of had a feeling from the beginning that it wasn't a good fit culturally for me. The process was a bit annoying. Being a Senior designer with 8+ years of experience and having a great portfolio. Making me do a test made me feel like I needed to prove to them that I can actually design. I would think my previous work and experience would be enough. I was content I didn't get an offer, the vibe I got was of a workplace where it could get overwhelming.
