I applied in-person. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Beaverton, OR) in Jan 2020
Interview
It is a pretty standard interview. They want to gauge how you'll be adaptable to the work environment, which is easy-going and able to REALLY relate and communicate with customers. They want the customers to have an experience when they shop at TJ's, so that means going out of your way to satisfy the customer. Having deep convos with customers is encouraged. Also being a team player and a hard worker. There are two interviews, the first one is to really give them the wow factor and glamorize your customer service experience and the second interview is with the store manager. Other than that it's a pretty standard interview process. Make sure you know some TJ products. They value product knowledge A LOT.
Applied online and had one in person interview with the captain. It lasted maybe 10 minutes. Got a call a week or so later that I got the job. Very fast process.
It's two to three interviews, the final with the Captain (or highest manager) of the store. The interviews are largely to get to know your personality and how well you would do at customer service.
The interview process was absolutely wonderful! I didn't feel stressed or nervous and it felt like I was just chatting with a friend! Trader Joes is a great company and the interview was great.
