The HR recruiter kept in contact throughout the process. Initially the process was very quick but stalled after the initial round 1 interview. It took them over a month just to tell me they weren't moving forward with me. The reason being they went with someone who had more experience relevant to the job. I feel like I jumped through some hoops- I sent them references that I don't believe they ever called. Seemed like a disconnect between HR and hiring manager

I applied online. I interviewed at Thrivent (Houston, TX) in May 2026
Interview
The interview process at Thrivent for the Virtual Financial Advisor role consists of multiple rounds. Round one is a phone screen with a recruiter who evaluates your background, communication skills, and fit for the role. Round two is a leadership team interview via Microsoft Teams where you discuss your why, your sales passion, your metrics, and situational examples using the STAR format. Round three, the final round, is also via Teams with the Virtual Advice Team where the focus shifts to consultative selling skills. You execute a live sales role play where you re-engage an existing client and move them toward scheduling a planning meeting. The interviewer emphasizes open-ended discovery questions, relationship building, and handling objections naturally. The entire process spans several weeks from initial application to final offer decision. Each round builds on the previous one, progressively evaluating your ability to serve Thrivent's members
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
In the final round interview, the interviewer emphasized the importance of asking open-ended discovery questions to build genuine relationships with clients. They specifically said to focus on how I would get to know someone, understand their real situation, and ask questions that invite them to share their thoughts and feelings openly rather than yes or no questions. The message was clear: relationship building and consultative listening come before product recommendations. That became the centerpiece of the final round evaluation
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Thrivent (Chicago, IL)
Interview
Multiple round interviews. Initially met with the marketing directors, then came on-site for live interviews. Final interviews were over the phone. Nothing technical, more mindset focused, making sure you are a right fit for the team.
