I had a quick phone call with Brian. before getting invited in for an in-person interview. The morning of my interview I received a call from the Owner, Frank to tell me that he was the one meeting with me and asked if I can come in later because he had an appointment at the time I had my interview. I went in earlier than proposed because I was taking time off work for this.
The interview with the owner was not pleasant. I had asked several questions about the responsibilities of the position, and he kept giving me vague answers. The owner is the epitome of a used car salesman; I felt pressured to move forward with the hiring process after I told him I didn't think this position was right for me. However, he wouldn't listen to me and he kept trying to sell me on his company.
He also made several comments that were out of line and demeaning. For example, one of the questions I asked was if the marketing coordinator position was salary. The Owner said yes, and stated: "let me tell you my people are making way more here than what you are making now!" He then proceeds to show me the last paycheck stub of their previous marketing coordinator. Of course, her information blacked out, but I'm wondering if this is legal.
Another example was I had asked "I am trying to understand more of the details for this job. What are the day to day responsibilities for this position?" The owner answered me "How do I explain this to you since I am much older than you. This is a big girl job, if you want to put your big girl pants on this is the job for you."
Then I felt forced to take these sales and personality tests. I should have left, but for some reason, I felt like if I did leave I was being rude. I randomly marked things on the tests so I could get out of there.
I learned a valuable lesson that day; if the owner treats me like this when he doesn't know me then this is a true representation of what the company culture is like.
