      Summer Portfolio Analyst Interview

      9 Mar 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Newport Beach, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at PIMCO (Newport Beach, CA) in Feb 2018

      Interview

First round was a phone screening followed by a superday and then the offer decision. Everyone I met at the firm was really friendly and genuine which made the whole process a lot more worthwhile. They push you to the limits of your knowledge because they want to see what you can do but are nevertheless willing to help guide you to the solution. Definitely more interested in how you think and how you are as a person (i.e. airplane test) rather than just getting to the right answer. Had a great experience.

      Portfolio Summer Analyst Interview

      9 Feb 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through university. I interviewed at PIMCO in Jan 2015

      Interview

The interview was through my university, and held on-campus. There were two interviewers, one an associate and one a VP. The associate said basically nothing, and the VP did all the talking. They introduced themselves then jumped right in with macro questions, which they really grilled me on, so if you are interviewing here make sure you did your research. As I was talking he kept asking me questions, to expand on what I just said etc. That was followed up with my recommendations for investments, as well as some brief questions about my work experience. There wasn't really any "fit" aspect or behavioral, just knowledge of current events and finance. I was pretty surprised, because for a first interview I at least expected them to ask me about my resume etc. before just jumping into the more technical side. The interviewers were overall pleasant but not very engaging.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

What were the three main economic themes for 2014, and how do they affect your outlook for 2015?
      Answer question

      Question 2

What are your long and short equity positions and what is your fixed income recommendation?
