While I understand that hiring decisions are ultimately based on the needs of the team, I wanted to provide direct feedback regarding my experience as a candidate.
My interview was canceled approximately three minutes before the scheduled start time and later rescheduled. While I understand that conflicts can arise, what stood out was the lack of acknowledgment of the last-minute cancellation or any brief appreciation for the flexibility required to accommodate the change. Because of the reschedule, I had to take time off on two separate days to make myself available for the interview.
During the interview itself, there was also no acknowledgment of the prior cancellation or the inconvenience caused, even in the form of a brief thank you for my flexibility. That absence stood out given the circumstances. During the interview, I felt there was limited opportunity to meaningfully discuss the depth of my experience and how it relates to the role.
With over a decade of experience in production management, cross-functional coordination, vendor management, scheduling, and entertainment production, I expected a more substantive discussion of my background and transferable skills. Instead, the conversation felt brief and primarily focused on confirming specific qualifications rather than exploring the broader scope of my experience. As a result, I left uncertain whether my background had been fully evaluated in relation to the role.
I was told by Jocelyn that I would hear back within one week. Instead, approximately four weeks later, I received a generic rejection email with no additional feedback or acknowledgment of the time and effort invested throughout the process. Adding to the frustration, Mattel’s recruiting email system does not allow candidates to reply, leaving me with no way to contact the recruiter or request a status update.
Additionally, the overall tone and level of engagement did not reflect the preparation and effort I brought to the process, nor the level of professionalism I would expect from an organization of Mattel’s size and reputation. The combination of a last-minute cancellation, requiring candidates to rearrange their schedules twice, followed by weeks of limited communication and a generic closing message, reflects a candidate experience that fell short of basic professionalism and consideration.
What was especially disappointing is that I was genuinely excited about this opportunity and had previously viewed Mattel as a company I would have been proud to contribute to. This experience has significantly changed that perception.
I appreciate the time that was spent with me and understand that hiring teams have difficult decisions to make. However, I wanted to share this feedback because the overall experience did not reflect the level of communication, respect, or professionalism I would expect from a company of Mattel’s reputation.
