I applied through college or university. I interviewed at MITRE

Interview

Email cordial, timely, good directions, pleasant enough of an interview. But the actual phone call to hire was terrible. It was explained there were only four applicants, and for some reason it was important to the caller that they mention I was the only 'girl' applicant. "Well, our first three picks were all hired elsewhere, do you still want the job?" Took the job out of necessity. Eventually, I was able to move around the company to friendlier colleagues.

Interview Questions

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at MITRE

Interview

Had an initial interview with one person, followed by a panel interview. Individuals on the panel were different from whom I was told I'd be interviewing with, which was fine but I think a sign that I was no longer a serious candidate possibly? Either way, I was completely ghosted by anyone I'd talked to after this and never heard from them. Perhaps I bombed the interview, fair enough, but requests for updates were ignored. Not a huge deal, but left a bad taste in my mouth.

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at MITRE

Interview

Pretty laid-back interview process. The first interview was over the phone where they asked general questions related my background, coursework, and projects with a few basic questions about signal processing. Next interview was on Teams with similar questions related to background. I was asked to work through a problem and answer some basic questions about probability. Finally, I spoke to a member of HR where logistics such as location, onboarding process, and compensation were discussed.

Interview Questions
  • What does the impulse response tell you about a linear time-invariant system? What are some differences between continuous-time and discrete-time signal processing? What is a random variable? Difference between a discrete time vs. continuous time random variable? What is a CDF?

Interview

Looking back on it, the interview process was a joke, and there's a few things that stand out to me now: • Was originally told it'd be hybrid, with 1-2 days a week in the office. I was then told it'd eventually be all back in office. • For a company that claims they're progressive, having multiple men at once interview a woman goes against that. Why were there no women involved? Are you not hiring any women for the positions at your company? • One of the interviewers went as far as saying, "if you don't mind not being paid well, you'll do good here." People need a living income to survive. There's no excuse for it, especially when you're federally funded. • Gave off "techbro" vibes. • Was asked a question I wouldn't even consider technical; was asked to give the steps on how to set up x, which I gave the steps on how to do so. I was then told that's not what they're looking for when that is pretty much the only answer to their question. All in all, it was just not a good experience. The interviewers did not really seem to know how to interview or even try to "sell" the job. The interview became increasingly uncomfortable, especially when some of them gave off an attitude. It honestly felt like a waste of time in the end.

Interview Questions
  • How will the experience you gained at your previous positions set you up for success with this position?

Interview

5 interviews, including an hour-long interview to showcase past work I've done. They took 2-3 weeks in between each interview to communicate with me, then months after the last interview. The entire process took about 6 months. They offered me a job verbally twice then ghosted me and I received an automated message saying the job was not available anymore. Terrible experience.

Interview Questions
  • Nothing out of the ordinary. Past experience, interests, ability to contribute value to company. Generally conversational, but a few "test" questions.
