I interviewed for a full-time faculty position. Standard interview process: Zoom interview with the search committee, then an on-site interview day including a job talk. The department chair later decided to split the posted full-time position up amongst multiple candidates. I was financially unable to accept their part-time offer of a 50% salary and the scaled-down benefits package, so I had to decline. It felt deceptive to put candidates through a rigorous months-long search process under the false pretense of a full-time opportunity. I followed up with the search committee, Dept Chair, Dean, and HR to try to understand why the full-time role was being split up between multiple candidates and changed to part-time, but it was never clearly communicated.
