      English Teacher Interview

      28 Feb 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Shanghai, Shanghai
      Accepted offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Longman Schools (Shanghai, Shanghai) in Mar 2014

      Interview

adults pretending to be 5 year olds, ran through my autopilot class routine, had interviewers standing up and down to answer questions. Extremely physical until one had to stop. Was offered the job lower than what was stated on the email. When I asked why they said this is what the are only allowed to give me at the moment. When I asked why they just repeated the answer. I called the English First recruiter and they offered a better amount, as I was leaving they gave the same amount that they originally told me.

      English Teacher Interview

      31 Mar 2014
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Shanghai, Shanghai
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Longman Schools (Shanghai, Shanghai) in Mar 2014

      Interview

At first I thought the interview was going well and as planned. Then I was hit with a curve ball. The interviewer gave me two dirty flashcards of a cat and a dog; two dirty, unsanitary puppets and a dirty toy hammer. Then she told me to come up with something in 5 minutes. Besides the flash cards; the other objects had nothing to do with each other. We also were in a small office and not a classroom environment. There was really nothing to interact with I also had to pretend that she was 3 years old. I usually start with a warm up song...something like HSKT and then gradually go on to the day's topics. I had trouble finding out what the topic was about....If the topics were supposed to about cats and dogs or animals what was the hammer for? And each class is supposed to have a TA. Where was mine? And why inside a cramped up office and not a real Pre K classroom? Usually when you teach toddlers you guys react off of each other. No 3 year old like reactions off of her. She had a problem with me sitting down during this lesson; not understanding that the purpose of me sitting down at the table was to hide my arms so that the puppets seemed more like real characters instead of just an extension of my arm if I had of stood up.( a "3 year old" with adult logic). Anyway I didn't get the job. No sour grapes here....I'm only writing this review because the lady attacked my teaching quality. I didn't get the job. I'm glad that I didn't. Once bitten twice shy. By just the interview alone I wouldn't advise anyone to work at this company.
