      Home Based Interviewer Interview

      25 Sept 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at IFF Research in Sept 2019

      Interview

Well, what an absolute shambles. The initial video interview process is simply answering questions through video responses. Once completed, you book a 'group assessment' - throughout which a false sense of urgency is pushed. This booking process is simple yet unclear. I was sent a confirmation of the time slot and absolutely no further information of how exactly the interview would be conducted, through what platform or what it would entail. After contacting IFF (note: no contact details were given at any point - you must find these yourself) I was sent an email with a download link and told to log in 15 minutes before the start time to ensure the interviewer could add me to the group. I was online and ready well in advance and waited until 10 minutes after the proposed start time before contacting IFF again to ask to be added to the interview. Once finally added, the interviewer addressed me unclearly and stated that those who 'failed to join' would be removed - I can only assume they were in a similar situation to myself and wasted their time equally, due to the lack of communication from IFF. Nevertheless, it came across as though these interviewees had only themselves to blame. The interviewer spoke in a condescending manner, claiming to be addressing the multiple interviewees in alphabetical order, despite addressing me first (my name begins with C) and clearly missing someone before me (name beginning with A). He repeatedly asked for me to speak and denied being able to hear me, possibly due to the loud call centre he was based in which was really a treat for my tinnitus. Then, the clearly petulant interviewer went on to explain that he would be assessing our knowledge based on the 'information previously emailed to us', with a lovely comment along the lines of 'Don't try to say you haven't received this information, I know for a fact it was emailed to you all'. Well, shockingly, I received no such email. Despite being entirely capable of managing my own email account, the onus was on me in this case apparantly, despite the clear previous failure to communicate basic information on IFF's part. Not only did this statement highlight the incompetency and arrogance of the interviewer himself, but equally the condescending nature of those 'higher' in the company as is mentioned multiple times in past reviews. So, instead of being publicly humiliated for a fault that was in no way my own, I decided to retain a little dignity and make a swift exit from this bubbling brew of bull. I suggest that unless you are applying to a job with this company out of sheer desperation, you move on with your search. Equally, I hope that these interviews are recorded and the interviewer who I was matched with is encouraged to get off his high horse and learn to speak to others with a modicum of respect. It's almost as if the company is ready to exploit those who choose to work from home due to personal circumstances limiting their actions! Who would have known?
