Phone interview comes first. The phone interview was pretty typical. After that there was 3 months of silence, I assumed they weren't interested anymore. Then I got a call for an in person interview. They give you a form with the usual questions on it to bring in before the interview (references, disclosures to backgrounds check ect). The interview was terrible. They sit you down and give you two exams to start with. One is a decently easy excel exam; they wanted to know if you can do some simple calculations and make graphs. The second exam was written. Some of the questions are relevant like what would you do if you had a substance you didnt know what it was, who do you pour acid and water, and some basic conversions and dilution calculations. Then you go on a tour; what they dont tell you is that they are setting up for your third exam during this time. You have to use one of their pieces of equipment to find the concentration of magnesium. You need to ask for gloves (this is important), they are going to put the wrong kind of pipette in front of you (you must ask for a more exact one), there are a few other tricky things too. HERE IS WERE THINGS WENT REALLY SOUTH FOR ME. They give you an instruction sheet. It is in maybe size 8 font; I completely forgot my glasses. I slipped up, but still managed to struggle my way through it. They are big on QC so they are going to ask you all of the things that could have gone wrong in the event that your results are not what they should be. Then comes the interview. It was pretty basic stuff. One of the guys rolled his eyes at me at one point and had some implied sexism so I was pretty much done after that. I didnt want to work with them anyway. All things considered, it is a very long process (my interview was 4 +hours). If you can handle all that, then this would be a great job for you. Apparently there is a tone of room for growth. Its been 2 months and I never heard back.
