      Operations Associate Interview

      18 Feb 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Forward (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

TLDR: Very disappointing for multiple reasons. Cons (of which there are many): - LONG process: 8+ conversations & expectation of time is immense (7+ hours of calls, plus potential time for full day onsite, plus 4+ hours of prep for "jam session" explained in other reviews) -Refusal of ANY feedback post interview: you spend roughly 20 hours in the interview process and they will not provide any rationale or tips - Lack of transparency: even at the latest rounds, company will not divulge a salary range (which violates California state law); they also won't give many details about company structure, etc, oddly very secretive - Low salary, at least for roles in SF: If you look at the ranges on Glassdoor and talk to employees, they say compensation is low (20-40% below standard); people in interviews made comments like "we are a start-up and act like a non-profit," etc; they emphasize throughout the process that you should really buy in to the vision, but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't compensate you! - Ambiguity on role - Caution here, as you cannot apply for a specific role, they determine this through the process and will not give an answer until an offer is made; further, they use this as rationale for why they cannot share salary with you or responsibilities. For better or for worse, roles are fluid and dynamic. - Eccentric CEO - Could be good, could be bad, but a lot of people in the company were comparing the CEO to Elon Musk. Inspiring story and background, with good intentions, but you should make your own judgements there... Pros: - Nice people: everyone was very nice throughout the process - Growing company: Seems like they are scaling fast and actively hiring a lot of people; vision is pretty grand and they are going to go for it - Cool product and vision: You can question the long-term outlook, but the product is downright cool. However, it's currently only accessible to very wealthy people...

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They always heavily focus on why you want to work there and alignment with the vision. In later rounds, there is a "jam session" where you solve prompts. At some point in the process, they will ask case study type questions, but nothing unexpected.

      Interview

This company and especially its leadership have a very scammy-feel to them despite their funding so far. From my interviews, I've gathered that the perfect candidate to them would basically be someone who drinks the Kool-Aid of wanting to replace actual real-world doctors with AI and "engineers". This is what one of their employees told me point-blank in an interview. The founder who came up with the original idea actually has a personal vendetta against physicians that the marketing team tries to spin as a sob story. And in addition to all these other reviews here on Glassdoor suggesting that they're only conducting interviews right now as a marketing scheme -- not actually looking to hire, I HIGHLY recommend anyone who does receive an offer from them to read up reviews of Forward from the public/customers that can be found on Reddit and other forums. There are overwhelmingly negative reviews from people feeling scammed and not receiving the services they've paid for. Highly do not recommend joining this company even if you do somehow get an offer. All my interviewers sounded like they were in a cult and could not think critically for themselves. Like replacing doctors with AI -- seriously? You have to be delusional or just plain dumb to actually believe in that pathetic excuse of a mission. I'm looking forward to the Netflix documentary on this scandal-magnet of a company coming out in the next 5-10 years. Godspeed.

      Question 1

Where else are you applying? Why Forward? One interviewer also spent the majority of the time on a soapbox, going on a 20-minute (I kid you not) monologue of the company mission.

      Interview

I was scheduled for a screening call followed by a case study/culture fit interview back-to-back. The case study portion asked me to describe a company dashboard for the CEO and the culture fit portion was very focused on why I want to work at Forward specifically. The hardest thing was figuring out how to answer when I wasn't applying for any job in particular.
