My impression (based solely on one isolated interaction) is that these folks are a wannabe Planet Fitness. They're not quite sure who their market is nor how to reach them (good starting point..huh?) The gentleman who interviewed me was not a fitness professional. Kinda chubby guy, with a background in finance I believe. I'm sure he could "run the numbers"....but literally run? Not so much, but I digress. Stereotypical staffing for health / wellness entities wooing the masses to a healthier lifestyle w/ pizza & tootsie roles!
Based on my convo, some behind the scenes industry savvy consortium hired inexperienced middle managers to run a mediocre gym.
Model:
Cheap member dues...no contracts....little to no personal training....kinda clean...kinda working equipment.
From a staffing standpoint, they want ambitious people w minimal experience, willing to work long hours, for little compensation. If you're new to the industry, maybe not a bad gig (if you live across the street and need a free gym membership).
