      Inside Sales Interview

      30 Oct 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at CW Publishing (New York, NY) in Oct 2013

      Interview

As I was walking in, they were firing sales people. The office appeared to me to be dirty and barren. The interview was held in the room facing the front door where the recruiter/hr rep could watch the firing and watch for the revolving interview candidates arrival. The interviewer appears to set 20 minutes per interview as he watched his clock during the interview. He speaks as if he's said the same thing over and over. It was hard for me to believe what the interviewer was saying. I asked him a lot of valid questions which did not get an answer. Example, I was told they had a "X" circulation but he could not prove it to me when I asked to see more information. He said a few other things which made me question the company as a whole. When he asked if I were interested in the company, I told him I needed to meet people and could I stay for an hour to observe. He said no. So, I found a way to talk to people. (as all good sales reps would know how to do.) I learned things about this company that I can't even print here. My impression: the job might be a detriment to my personal life as in credit score - they seem to go through sales reps which could jeopardize my credit when applying for a loan. The job might hurt my resume and work history making me look bad. I felt like if I were to make a sale, they'd try to find a way not to pay me. Just a gut feeling. My gut told me to run.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

I gave him the most difficult question after listening to him tell me that the sales people are responsible for sourcing their own leads and making 200 dials per day (yes 200). My question, "it is impossible for sales people sourcing their own leads to make 200 dials per day. How would anyone be able to hit that goal? I mean, that is not even a sales job. that's a phone monkey or churn job." "What is going on here?"
