I applied for a role at C&S Wholesale Grocers that aligned perfectly with my 20+ years of HR and Talent Management leadership experience. Shortly after, a recruiter contacted me to schedule time to connect. I promptly responded with multiple date and time options, expecting to move forward in the process. Unfortunately, I never received a response—no meeting invite, no follow-up, and no explanation.
The job market is challenging enough and I understand that recruiters manage many candidates, but timely communication is a basic courtesy. Even a short note to close the loop would have made a huge difference. Being ignored after initial outreach not only reflects poorly on the company’s recruiting process, it also leaves a lasting negative impression on the brand as a whole.
Based on this experience, I'm retracting my application and will no longer do business with any C&S Wholesale Grocers brands. I will also share my experience with friends and family. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and leads to improvements in candidate communication and follow-through.
Advice to Management:
Treat candidates with the same respect you expect from them—communicate clearly, follow up after outreach, and close the loop when someone is no longer being considered. It protects your brand and builds goodwill, even with those you don’t hire.
