Myself being a life long City of Kalamazoo resident, I feel driven and motivated to work within my community. I was looking forward to interviewing for a position where I could work with others in the community and hopefully create some efficiencies. The interview process was pretty straightforward and involved situational questions. I knew pretty early into the interview that this would not be a position which fit me well. The employees who interviewed me were very polite and it was easy to keep a conversation going, we just didn’t click. I have never worked in the public sector before.
I was surprised with the number of non-Kalamazoo residents who hold very high decision making positions with the city, yet they do not live here. Personally I don’t feel like the position was a good fit for me and would not have provided me with the fulfillment that I was seeking, it would have just been a job.
