Advice for getting an internship this summer (MBA student)? Do hospitals systems do this or would I be better off looking at other areas of healthcare? Focusing on strategy and biz dev. Any advice or people willing to talk much appreciated.

I would stay away from hospital internships. The industry is changing and they want outside people to come in and fix. For example, if you want to fight the IRS you want someone from the IRS working for you. Whether it's Finance, Supply Chain, HR, or clinical operations you will have much more value (especially with a MBA) coming from an ERP vendor, consulting firm, or even a Lifesciences company to them than a administrative leadership program fellow.
I work at olive and i see some truth in this based on what you’re probably seeing on linkedin. but we are moving faster than the competition for sure
Some hospitals definitely hire MBA interns. Last year was tough as they all got killed by Covid but maybe this year will be different
Yea this year they’ve all performed very bad
You should look at Qualtrics. If you like data, healthcare, and actually helping folks.
Lol I don't, my bestfriend does and he loves it. A lot of ex consultants go there, it's a really hard place to get in. He's told me it's a solid place though.
Possible to get an internship if you have connections, apply to private hospitals, or apply to larger systems (Kaiser, Mayo, Intermountain). It’s tougher to get into university AMCs as those internships are usually reserved for MHSA students. That being said, full time positions are a different story. I work in strat plan and we have MBAs, JDs in our group. Last piece of advice - try to look for health systems that have intentionally created strategy teams/departments. There are a lot of “Strategy” groups out there that don’t actually do strategy.
Try, strategist
