Does knowing VBA add value to compensation?
I got a nice review recently, but no change in comp or scope, and it made me wonder how much praise matters without action behind it. Kind words are great, but they don’t pay rent. Do you value recognition if it doesn’t come with tangible reward?
I am 63 years old and have 30 years of Collections management experience working in banks . I currently have an individual contributor role job making $110,000 per year . Our office is only 5 people. I report to the owner . I've been here 3 years. I recently received a job offer of $110,000 for a Collections Manager for a Debt Collection law firm. They have a 401K plan but no match. My current job is very low stress , casual dress, and a very easy job. Is this new job worth the move ?
I’m working from home today because I have a plumber coming, and I’ve already received three “Are you online?” messages from my VP. The lack of trust is staggering. The second I’m not physically visible in my cubicle, they assume I’m at the beach. It makes me want to quit and find a remote-first shop just to escape the attendance-based management style. Is face time still the most important metric in 2026??
Leadership question: When a supervisor asks for your honest opinion about a coworker, how candid should you be? Do you give your unfiltered assessment if you believe the person is underperforming or relying too heavily on others, or do you focus only on objective facts and let management draw its own conclusions? Curious how others have handled this situation.
Currently booking summer travel for the family, and it hit me… my parents would’ve never been able to afford vacations like this growing up. It made me wonder: when was the moment you realized, ‘Wow… I finally made it’?
Not really as it just falls under “advanced excel skills”
I’m just saying from the optics perspective it’s not really seen as much different that “advanced excel user”. If you are applying for modeling heavy finance roles then maybe - but I’d specify what you can do with VBA that is relevant to the role like “built lattice models to value complex securities using VBA”.
Not anymore due to more advanced analytics and automation tools being used.
If you’re really good at building macros
No
Vba can be learnt in appx. 2 weeks. So its not a big deal.
