Managing principals are top-rank executives at the highest level of a company. Depending on the company structure, they may also be a shareholder or part owner of the business. Their role tends to be heavily focused on client relations. They nurture and strengthen existing client relationships, and capitalize on opportunities to target high-value leads. They develop strategic business plans, mentor and supervise staff, and provide overall company leadership. They may also be involved in the recruitment, hiring, and training of new staff members.
Managing principals typically have at least a bachelor’s degree, but depending on the type of firm, it’s likely they may also have an advanced degree such as an MBA. They have an extensive background in their field, and strong leadership abilities. Good client relationships are also required.
