What is an Equity Research Analyst?

Equity research analysts have a comprehensive background in financial markets and work under financial managers, providing them with recommendations about investment decisions. They gather the needed information to develop a complete picture of a business’s other investing options and specifically focus on securities investments including bonds, options, and stocks.

Equity research analysts produce reports outlining relevant considerations and making their recommendations. They meet with management and explain their conclusions and often specialize in a particular industry to continually monitor the conditions. Equity research analysts create reports, conduct research, analyze financial information, and make predictions regarding financial matters, and present findings in meetings utilizing strong communication and analytical skills. Equity research analysts need a bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or a similar study area.

Responsibilities for Equity Research Analyst

  • Assist in the preparation of the quarterly due diligence pack.
  • Assist internal sales and trading teams in the timely analysis of breaking news in the sector.
  • Attend/present at investment committee meetings on PE related recommendations.
  • Coordinate, manage, and monitor external audit process.
  • Interact with institutional investors, responding to requests for models, reports and data analysis.
  • Meet with team weekly to communicate new processes, goals and priorities.
  • Ensure the appropriate level of expertise, consistent knowledge, and support is given to sector searches.
  • Assist with client inquiries and requests (internal and external).
  • Analyze implications of news/industry developments to companies under coverage.

  • Use data and insights to inform conclusions and support decision-making.
  • Develop a point of view on key global trends, and how they impact clients.
  • Answering inquiries from firm personnel regarding individual securities or industry groups.
  • All professionals will lead impactful, client facing operational improvement workstreams, and have routine and regular access to the client.
  • Responsible for executing capital raising transactions in both debt and tax equity.

Qualifications for Equity Research Analyst

  • Bachelor's or Graduate's Degree in business, finance, or business administration.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Can prioritize tasks and pay strict attention to detail.
  • Prior experience as a consultant.
  • Experience with C, KDB, Quant, and PDF software and systems.
  • Is comfortable moderating and conducting exercises.
  • Can collaborate with clients and team members for decision making.
  • Fluency in business case development and GAAP protocols.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and product knowledge.
  • A creative thinker with strong negotiation skills.
