Car-X Associates seeks to "X" out auto problems. With more than 175 franchised and company-owned automotive service shops, mostly in the Midwest, the company takes care of what's under your hood, under your car, and on the outside of your car. Car-X provides maintenance and repair services for most automotive systems, including air conditioning, braking, electrical, and exhaust. The company also offers preventative maintenance and performance and custom modifications. Customers are given free use of a rental car for up to four hours while their vehicles are being worked on. Car-X began in 1971 as a muffler shop in Hammond, Indiana. It is owned by Ohio-based service center operator and franchiser Tuffy Associates.
