I was contacted by someone in HR (recruiter?) for initial vetting. I was asked a few questions about how I would handle working with subject matter experts. The actual questions were valid and made sense to ask. But the person asking me the questions was so tense and aggravated to the point that I wanted to end the call altogether. At one point, she said, "Not that what you're selling is irrelevant but ..." I was dumbfounded. If this is how HR acts, I'd hate to have a problem with the company. To my surprise, she liked me enough to move me up to the next level. I winced and wondered if the editor would be this mean. To my absolute surprise, the editor was very pleasant and friendly. My guess is if you can stay away from HR, you'd enjoy working here. I was a bit disappointed that the UNPAID editing test was three hours long. That felt excessive, considering my fact-checking and editing background, but I did it anyway to the best of my ability.
