“We are constantly evolving and changing how we operate; Keith talks about his life at Sky.”
Job title: Retail Commercial and Assets Manager
What area of the business do you work in? Retail
What’s your career journey been like up until now?
I have been working in Retail since I was 16 years old and have had so many Retail related roles from Sales Advisor to Stock Room Manager. I joined Sky in 2013 as an Area Manager looking after a number of our stores throughout Ireland. In 2017 I was promoted to Retail Commercial and Assets Manager.
What does a typical day working here look like for you?
It might sound cliché, but no working day is ever the same and that’s something I love about working for Sky. We are constantly evolving and changing how we operate and constantly bringing new products to the market. My role is split in to the here and now day to day work and the long-term projects which can be anything as short to planning activity for an upcoming quarter to long term strategy changes which can take 18 months’ worth of planning.
What’s been your proudest moment since working here?
We have just opened 4 Flagship stores nationwide which I have been leading on for the past year and a half. It’s been the biggest moment for Sky Retail in Ireland since its inception and it’s work that I’m so proud to have played a major part in.
What’s the most enjoyable thing about your job?
It’s the people 100%, in Sky there is a massive culture of collaboration and teamwork to achieve our goals. This goes from all the office staff to the third-party suppliers that we also align ourselves with. You will see in Sky Ireland that there are so many people who have really long tenure, this speaks volumes about how happy people are within the business.
Describe your work/life balance?
It’s pretty good, you need to set your own rules and stick by them. I try to switch off when I’m on leave and empower those in my team to step up and take responsibility when I’m not around. We live in an age now where phones are glued to our hands and knowing when to switch off is key to keeping the batteries charged.
What advice would you give to others trying to develop their career?
Ask as many questions as you can. Knowledge is key to be successful and the only way to improve is by gaining as much knowledge as you can from those around and above you.
I’ve never seen the movie the jungle book! Shocker I know
