Pros

Free Friday Lunch, people are chill, kitchen is stocked with snacks :D

Cons

So much office politics, micromanagement like nothing else, managers don't trust employees and the feeling's mutual, managers wont hesitate to throw you under the bus to save themselves from their bosses, management have a lot of miscommunication between themselves, disruptive and abusive and incompetent employees are protected, management lies and makes a lot of false promises, it's not about what you know or what you can do, it's about who you kiss up to or sleep with

Pros

Great coworkers and team. There’s a sense of camaraderie throughout the team as we commiserate in a great workplace swiftly going down hill.

Cons

Understaffed. Underpaid. Overworked. Our team has quickly shrunk over the last few months due to low pay and bad decision making from management. There has been no real effort seen to replace those that have left and everyone else is expected to pick up the slack. No job postings for replacements with an ever growing workload along with plans to outsource new support members from overseas has left a distinctly bad taste. Yearly raise did not cover the cost of inflation. Work from home opportunities have been scaled back over the last year with the acquisition of a new office. What used to be truly flexible is now 4 days in office for a job that can be done 100% remote. I’m sad to see the direction the company has been going. It was great years ago but I can not say the same now. The company no longer recognizes, maintains, or grows talent. An ever swelling executive staff, but the “funding cycle” for hiring and raises never seems to roll around to our team. There is no compensation for mandatory on call duties. On call has been in the process of being phased out for two years, but unpaid on call shifts have increased over the last few months. I can genuinely say that every single change made from the top down over the last few years have negatively impacted me individually or the team as a whole.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We appreciate your positive comments about your coworkers and the sense of camaraderie within the team. We understand your concerns about being understaffed. Rest assured, we are actively working to improve our recruitment and hiring processes to more quickly identify and onboard top talent. Even more importantly, we are committed to addressing burnout and providing an exceptional working environment for all of our current employees. Regarding the reduction in work-from-home opportunities and the increase in on-call duties, we will take your feedback into consideration as we continue to make improvements. Your advice to management is valuable and appreciated. Thank you for your dedication to our organization and for being a part of iX.

Pros

Flexible when it comes to perks (but not salary, see Cons). Interesting product that lends itself to all kinds of interesting experiences across the technical stack. Good work-life balance (not the case in all departments, however). The 'benefits' are great if you don't mind trading large chunks of compensation for snacks, but I'll leave those for people that actually prefer glass walls with their zoo (I'm looking at you).

Cons

The first red flag was the pay; $45k salary for a "QA Engineer" which had previously been pulling six figures doing webdev working remotely, but that's okay, because I made sure to clarify that I would be seeking more competitive pay after having proven myself before accepting the position. Ha, how naive; context doesn't matter to bullies. After two employee reviews, both being rated top marks "IX supreme being" in every category, pay negotiations with managers finally came to an agreement on a number, only to have it shot down by the CEO: "try again 9 months later, at which point your number seems reasonable".... this is after having been delayed in every way possible by the middle-managers for months, on top of others bragging about their hazing period at the infancy of the company. I went through my hazing period as well, at the BEGINNING of my decade old career. A day later, I get locked out of my iX accounts with the explanation that they thought I was quitting, so I guess I was fired since they misjudged that situation. Clarifying made little difference to the situation. So if you like working for dishonest, vindictive employers that use the passion of their employees to in turn under pay them: this is your stop. Despite that, it was still worth the experience in my situation (+1), since I kind of knew what I was getting into. The development process was enjoyable enough despite management (chalked up to some oddly placed trust and lack of micro-management; oddly because they'll still stab you in the back), which I imagine is why so many talented people have decided to put up with so little in return. The relaxed pace is great for a breather, but long-term careers would be better served somewhere that management doesn't see you as purchased property once you've taken the position. Let's not even get started on the nepotism.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. We take all feedback to heart, both positive and negative, and are sorry to hear that your experience at iXsystems didn’t match up to the environment we strive so hard to foster at our company. We do want to point out that typically new hires are started on a one year contract, and I believe this would have been the case here. We generally re-evaluate compensation at the end of the one year term, and are more than happy to re-negotiate salary at that point. We wish things had worked out better and are glad to hear that you did have some positive experiences during your time at iXsystems. We wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors.
