I worked at Travelport full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I worked with lots of people who had broad technical and industry knowledge and who were more than willing to help others.

    Cons

The company outsourced a large part of the technical team and lost a lot of technical expertise and experience when they laid off a substantial portion of their tech team.

I have been working at Travelport full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The Dublin office is viewed very positively in Travelport and we are able to attract good people with potential. The office itself is very nice, and the site operations people do an amazing job. It’s a pleasure working there. Since the company was bought a lot of the senior leaders who were just hanging around for a payoff have left, which is great. There is an emerging sense of purpose and direction - though see cons. People are friendly, supportive and considerate. I can’t think of any a******s who work in the Dublin office.

    Cons

Change bring uncertainty, but it’s not unique in Travelport. The company has some difficult choices - I hope they choose to take swift, short term pain and risk over “business as usual” because the latter means stagnation. Smart people will leave. Agile is new to the org outside Dublin and they need to hire more pragmatic and experienced agile coaches across the globe and less people with theoretical book smarts who talk mumbo jumbo - we have had a few of them over the years.

    Advice to Management

Take risks with our business, and support risk taking. Recognise people and good parts of our culture and work to recognise and amplify that.

I have been working at Travelport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fun relaxed work environment Young work crowd Lots of social events

    Cons

Way too many managers. Very top heavy company. As the parent company takes over more and more the company starts to slow down with corporate bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Managers should have less meetings about meetings and do more actual work.

I have been working at Travelport full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good benefits and site culture in Dublin

    Cons

Very poor decisions made by certain Directors of Engineering in Dublin. Their 'favourites' are promoted over more qualified staff and they spend most of their time playing politics. Site Leadership seem unwilling to do anything about it.

    Advice to Management

Install better management structure for dev teams.

I have been working at Travelport full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This company has a core group of good people steering the ship. Salaries can be competitive but you have to work to get them. If don't put your hand up for hard work don't expect to get paid or promoted more. Apple mac hardware Breakfast cereal and fruit Good social scene 25 days holidays as standard Basic healthcare Good pension

    Cons

Management can be reactive. Results in losses to good staff. The product can be dull. A lot of travel itinerary/booking tools. Wider Travelport uses Microsoft suite.

I have been working at Travelport full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good company with a good vision. The new ownership will put the company in a great competitive space. It's a great company for career growth, if you're willing to put your hand up for a challenge you'll be supported. The people make the company a great place to work. There's lots of social stuff happening if you want to get involved in that. There's plenty of training opportunities if you ask for it. Free breakfast and fruit. Good holiday leave offer and company days.

    Cons

The company's been through a lot of change and what used to be the MTT culture has changed. It's not for everyone but if you're ok with change and being part of a bigger corporate tech company, there's opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Keep asking how people are. It's easy to get caught up in the senior management world

    Cons

The salaries are at the low end of the spectrum The company vision has become very blurred since the departure of CEO There's a real sense of unhappiness amongst the remaining engineers

I worked at Travelport full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Great technology stack and always looking to integrate best practices e.g. Kubernetes and CI/CD - Lots of learning opportunities from colleagues, conferences etc.. - People in Sports & Social are always working hard to behind the scenes to make Dublin a fun place to work

    Cons

    - The takeover from Travelport has hampered career growth in the Dublin office (MTT) and one of the reasons why so many good engineers have left in the last 2 years. This is understandable since there is a transition period and Travelport is a large corporate company. - Product Management has lost its vision and doesn't focus on delivering value to its customers. They just want to ship it fast and ignores the advice of its developers when it comes to not acknowledging the consequences. - The Dublin office still suffers from a meeting culture where decision making is poor and this is caused by the change in the agile transformation to SAFe.

    Advice to Management

Start giving back the decision making to the development teams since they know the product better than anyone else.

I have been working at Travelport full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Great peers, work life balance, enjoyable working environment, social events etc. Easy communication with management, you don’t feel disjointed or less than anyone else in your team. Your opinion matters to your team and is always considered throughout a projects development process. Opportunity to move roles if desired. Good exposure for newbies to the industry. Growing company. Enjoy coming to work 🙂

    Cons

High turn around of employees, too high in my opinion. Lack of work motivation/innovation in some teams. Some bad implementation of internal solutions. Not willing to fork out some money for better outsourced solutions, stop trying to reinvent the wheel where unnecessary. Not enough car parking spaces!

    Advice to Management

I believe you should reward and value the great employees you already have and those growing rapidly within the company, you should want to keep the best, not let them wander elsewhere. Make your employees want to work for you and be proud of the work they do, acknowledge their success, both small and large, and those failing to succeed, help guide them in the right direction, push them to be something great. Some great stuff going on, keep doing more.
