I have been working at Toyota Motor Corporation full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Benefits are good, captive finance for the largest automaker in the world, provides you with some stability. If you are happy with staying in the same role your entire career, this is the place for you.

    Cons

Technology is outdated, management refuses to make substantive changes, lack of growth opportunities and cronyism is rampant. Senior managers have their favorites who are protected even when they do wrong. There is no growing a leadership team to take over when senior people leave. Management only cares about optics and looking good. I have been with the company more than 5 years and seen the culture get worse.... Management pats themselves on the back about how they are better than other captive finance companies but never want to compare themselves to the best companies people want to work for. Don't be fooled by their brand recognition. They pull in candidates who think this is a world class organization but that is the manufacturing company. Financial services is all about using political clout to move up.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, grow your talent and don't tune out the people doing the work. Stop rewarding bad behavior and trying to always seem like a savior on large programs. Work culture is the worst I have seen in a fortune 500 company. Stop punishing the high performers to make your favorite suppliers look good. You need to be more competitive to keep good people around. Most of our turnover has been recent... hires. That should be a red flag that you are building a culture of incompetence that is pushing new hires out and stifling innovation.
