Pros

Unlimited pto Pretty trusting colleagues

Cons

Definitely not focused internally on leadership development the way they preach. Some people in senior manager levels and up have no actual interest in the company mission and it's a joke that they are the ones who get promoted because they play the political corporate BS.

Thank you so much for your feedback. While I do sense that everyone at Torch is committed to the growth and development of our people, I also realize that there is a lot more we can be doing to formalize our systems and take development to the next level. A big part of my job is to make sure we are truly Customer Zero for our product and best in class when it comes to developing our people. I have so many ideas, and would love to hear yours too! For better or for worse, there are some baseline needs my team has to focus on first, so you probably won’t feel major changes until later in the year. I can’t wait to see what we can do together!

Good Company w/ Growth Pains

Pros

Flexible work remote policy, moderate effort to gauge employee satisfaction, 'try it, break it, try again' mentality, mission oriented, things are growing so you can help shape the strategy/product, founders are transparent about some things

Cons

Prioritizing growth over company culture, DEI is spoken about but doesn't feel prioritized in hiring or business objectives, medium to high turnover, pattern of firing people/laying them off and not talking about it, favoritism is strong, not a lot of space for horizontal or lateral career moves, a lot of room to improve team dynamics/integration post merger

Pros

The heart of our business is centered on helping people become their best selves at work. If you can ignore the other noise and remind yourself why you're here, it's easy to choose to work and stay at Torch over and over again. Taking risks is encouraged. Comp and benefits are competitive This is the furthest company from traditional HR, and most of the time that's a good thing.

Cons

Uncomfortable sense of judgment and that Torch is so much more enlightened than other companies and it feels horrible. It manifests as thinking we are "on the right side of history" but it comes across as denigrating our customers. Our customers are the reason my kids have enough to eat, so it's a terrible feeling to build relationships with companies making their own business decisions, only to hear your exec team talk crap about them. This is more of a warning to anyone wanting to work here, but you need to understand that refusing to participate in the woke olympics will be career-limiting. You will be accused of white fragility or enabling white supremacy if you push back on the identity politics and half-baked social justice initiatives constantly coming at you. Executives will tell you that none of this is accurate, that you can come to office hours and disagree, but that isn't true. Conservatives and "Trump supporters" are openly mocked. This may be a pro to some and that's awesome, you might do really well here, but understand that it is an echo chamber where dissenting opinions are not welcome. That is not conducive to growth and learning. No real promotional or growth opportunities.
