I worked at TNS North America full-time for more than 19 years

      Pros

Good work-life balance. Ability to work with many clients across many sectors. Many offices in many countries with opportunities to travel for work.

      Cons

This company got too big and stopped focusing on the customer. They ended up more interested in systems than keeping projects. Too much outsourcing.

      Advice to Management

Think about going back to the heart of what made the company so successful, which was building teams that loved working for each other and their clients. Things are too siloed and fractured now.

I worked at TNS North America full-time

        Pros

Smart, hard working colleagues. Work from home flexibility. Staff includes a lot of experienced researchers who openly share their knowledge. Branded research solutions are OK. Global capabilities.

        Cons

Assembly line mentality. Management views employees as just "cogs in a wheel". Organization is too top heavy. Many rounds of layoffs have left a lot of "chiefs" but not too many "Indians". Working 50+ hours/week is the expectation.

        Advice to Management

Hire someone with experience in the market research business to run the company. Acknowledge that your employees are some of the best in the business but you're decisions and disregard for them sucks the passion and interest right out of them.

        Cons

Under its parent company TNS's growth in North America is stagnated. Out sourcing more work to India has create downsizing in several departments.

        Advice to Management

Your employee are have bee dedicated - take care of those that remain. Train all in the newer methodologies of Market Research data collection - aka Social Media Technologies.

I worked at TNS North America

        Pros

Global capabilities and resources are somewhat good.

        Cons

Horrendously incompetent leadership at all levels of the firm. Important strategic decisions are made by people with no knowledge of how the business works. Constantly laying off people doesn't fix the company's revenue problems.

        Advice to Management

Get it together folks! Leadership needs to start holding senior management accountable for their ineffectiveness. TNS is really losing its luster and clients recognize it. It's unfathomable that the firm can tout the ability to help clients grow and be successful when TNS leadership can't even do it themselves. Start fresh in your HR department and clean house!
