I have been working at State Street Global Advisors full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pleasant working environment, Cafeteria food heavily subsidized. Good work life balance - Help is there (But you have to ask twice for it)

    Cons

Pay well below market rate in Ireland. Little chance to grow career, higher up's sign off on everything (Pay raise/bonus/promotion) when they have no idea who you are and do not see what you contribute - Micro management also an issue. Culture fitted best for Students.

I have been working at State Street Global Advisors full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Wide range of training opportunities, both internal and external, which state street will pay for. Willing to hire with little experience and allow sufficient time to get comfortable in the role. Good team working environment. Good career development opportunities.

    Cons

Expected to work late, even just to be seen to be there past finishing time. Favoritism exists, although this will occur anywhere, high work load, can lead to stress in upper management, which in turn causes stress for those underneath them.

I worked at State Street Global Advisors full-time

    Pros

Pay very good wages. Learn a lot on the job. Helpful support. My manager was good at her job.

    Cons

Work you very very hard that offsets the good pay also erodes your work life balance. Some red tape can be involved.

I worked at State Street Global Advisors full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Intelligent, nice people to work with. Opportunities to take part in family events, get involved in the community. You can get involved in mentor programs to explore other areas of the business, which I found useful. Opportunities for growth and movement within other areas of the business.

    Cons

Very few social events for employees, especially in the back office. They use the recession as an excuse to continue to hold back on employee perks (no Christmas party, for example, which is huge when you bust your butt all year). Slow to react to change requests on systems- everything is very ticket-oriented (even if the person that issues a "completed" ticket didn't help you at all but directed you to another area. HR is outsourced in the European arm of the organization, which makes it very difficult if you are going through an HR issue (problem with a review, for example). You have to have very personal conversations on your desk phone, or send emails to nameless people. It's really not ideal at all.
