I have been working at Penn Medicine full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Focus on the community, non-profit organization. Committed to research and providing the best care.

    Cons

A lot of administrative departments considered more “necessary evils” than important parts of organization.

I worked at Penn Medicine full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Employees work hard and collaborate, lots of experience in and around the organization, growing and innovative (maybe too fast for what they can handle)

    Cons

Archaic processes, everything is manual work arounds or exceptions, high turnover, commute is horrendous to Civic Center location unless you live in the city, work life balance is virtually non-existent

I have been working at Penn Medicine full-time

    Pros

Culture is supportive community, with plenty of local community outreach opportunities to be a part of. Colleagues are supportive of team members, support from managers and higher ups to ensure one reaches their potential to be a valued contributing member of a team.

    Cons

HR is a nightmare. Very slow in the job requisition and onboarding process for new employees. They are slow in just about everything they do. From employee requests for workspace accommodations to pay bumps; it seems that they are operating years behind where a company this size should be. Very difficult to convince HR of salary raises, even with manager and director level support. Seems that more of Penn's... non-profit earnings should be funneled back to the employees a bit more.

    Advice to Management

Keep showing consistent support for your employees; but be aware that it takes more than great managers to retain great employees. A nice work atmosphere only goes so far when the compensation is lacking.

I have been working at Penn Medicine full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Opportunity to gain experience. Great medical insurance for self and family. Excellent tuition reimbursement for non-degree or degree program. Opportunity to transfer within the health system.

    Cons

Although, there is an opportunity to transfer within the system unless you know someone it can be hard to gain employment. Some departments don't support the education schedule especially inpatient. Your scheduling hours may rotate depending on unit needs!

I have been working at Penn Medicine full-time for more than a year

    Pros

benefits are great- people are relatively nice

    Cons

Salary is way below market, Anyone below a manager position is treated like lower class citizens. Arrogant leaders who think everyone that works for them is below them (figurately). HR does not help- complaints will be back to managers despite being confidential discussions
