What people are saying about PayPal

The Water Cooler

works at

Paypal

I’ve worked at PayPal for almost 5 years. I recently relocated due to personal family matters from Illinois to Tennessee. I followed the company’s relocation policy perfectly. They waited 6 weeks after my relocation was approved to inform me that my pay would reduce by 12k. Not to mention they still have not had any update about my health benefits changing. They told me that Google COL calculators show it’s cheaper than IL. I’m absolutely mind boggled and disgusted by it all.

        Pros

The only positive coming into work each day was seeing my coworkers and knowing we were going to endure the same hell every day. Yes they offer some good benefits but it's because it is a horrible place to work where you're just a number

        Cons

I have worked many years of inbound phone customer service jobs and I have NEVER EVER had customers treat the people the way me and my coworkers were treated on a daily basis. I am a Very positive and upbeat person and always try to find the little bit of positive in even the worst of situations but the constant verbal abuse that we had to put up with was unreal. The crazy thing is that PayPal could do something about it ---if someone can't get into their acct or give any of the personal info they should be able to provide we were not able to help them. I think as a company who claims to "care about their employees" they could stop the abuse. You give someone a warning if they do it again then they can only self service via the internet and if they continue being abusive you tell them they are no longer able to have a PP account. I literally had people calling me not only cussing me out but telling me to die and that my family should die and some other horrible terrible things I can not imagine EVER saying to someone I don't know who is trying to help you. I got to the point were I was suffering from severe depression because of the job and decided my mental health and well being was worth more than the money I was making there (which was just ok btw) I definitely would NEVER work for them again in any position. What they expect their employees to put up with and endure is SO unbelievable. There are WAY better corporate jobs out there with upper management that actually care about you and you're treating as a human not just another number.

          Pros

Pay was really good , only reason I stayed. The benefits are good too and they give you a month sabbatical if you make it to 5 years .

          Cons

Non stop phone calls, nasty customers, rarely give you time of the phone to do other projects. As far as getting a new position they ask the same redundant questions and basically unless you know someone you have no chance of getting a better position off the phones .

                Pros

Healthy benefits are good and they start right away. That's a good thing because most employees get serious anxiety from working here so half the company needs the FMLA

                Cons

Yes PayPal was voted "best place to work" but that was in 2014. A lot has changed as we enter 2016. The moral has changed. The vibe sucks and no one seems happy anymore. They started hiring anyone just to have a warm body in a seat. With that came ghetto people, lazy people and people who dress completely sloppy and basically in their pajamas. You can't bring your lunch because it will just get stolen from the fridges. And the food available to buy is overpriced. And no one will do anything about lunches being stolen daily. Who steals someone's entire lunch from the fridge or freezer?? And what management just looks the other way about it?? People gossip here including the upper management. Out of ALL the departments here, maybe 2 of them are worth it. All other depts "CS, disputes, fraud" they are all stressful and underpaid.

                  Pros

Great company that takes care of it's employees. The benefits are excellent and the support from the Supervisors and leaders are good. And they are open to suggestions for improvement, from the team leader to the CEO. There is opportunity to progress your career and the support for that is plenty available. I myself am moving from Collections Specialist to Business Support.

                  Cons

Since the company is as big as it is changes may take a bit more effort to implement. But still the company makes the effort to create a good work environment .

The pros are basically only the benefits and that it would look good on your resume.

                    Cons

Strict rules that are not employee friendly. I've been there 3 years and it's starting to feel strangling, like they just want to pay someone new so they don't have to spend much money. They seem to be having a hard time keeping their employees happy.

Excellent team-mates, very intelligent people with great work ethics. The benefits are good and the work atmosphere was wonderful.

                        Cons

Too many "chef's in the kitchen." Decisions made on-high aren't sufficiently filtered down, current lay offs and not a lot of room for growth.

If asked what type of management style to you prefer? How do you feel about micromanagement? How do you answer this professionally? Nobody likes micromanagement so why ask? Maybe bc the manager there does?
