Pros
Retirement contributions Healthcare benefits Tuition reimbursement Vacation accrual/ PTO Opportunity for advancement
Cons
Depending on the job/department some are grossly under paid for the work they do. Depending on the department some areas are known to have a hostel work environment. Lots of favoritism when it comes to internal hiring, you have to know people and have a good working relationship with them.

Career Ending Choice for a Physician or Healthcare Professional
24 Dec 2022 - Deputy Forensic Pathologist in Pontiac, MIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The support staff were helpful and pleasant. Pre-pandemic, the working hours had good flexibility. The health insurance benefits were excellent.
Cons
This place had a disrespectful, toxic atmosphere. I saw many people around me, and was myself, berated and disrespected in multiple ways by my supervisor. He ruled through fear and intimidation. He made fun of me like a petulant child would. I'm referring to name calling and gaslighting such as "Pathetic," "Self-Centered," "Meltdowns," etc. The Human Resources department, as a standard policy, will not provide a letter of good conduct or good clinical reference to any future employers or licensing agency, and I cannot obtain any future good reference due to personal animosity from my immediate supervisor. There is no professional reason for this, simply personal dislike, disagreement, and complaints. For any medical doctor, this greatly limits the ability to be licensed in other states or credentialed in a healthcare practice. That is why this place, Oakland County and specifically their Medical Examiner, is a career ending choice for a physician and probably other healthcare professionals. If you go there, don't plan on working as a credentialed provider in a healthcare system again.

Is this really public health?
22 Feb 2023 - Community Assistant in Southfield, MIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Benefits are good, salary is alright but not competitive. Merit status gives job security.
Cons
Workplace culture is awful. Think of a sorority. White women being passive aggressive all the time. Technology and such is so outdated. IT people don’t know what they are doing.

Pros
Benefits and consistent pay. Really that's about it
Cons
Not any real opportunities for advancement. Employees don't move up because positions stay filled. No clear or defined leadership in departments. A lot of supervisor positions are held purely due to time in service at the county and not given to those who are deserving. Reviews need to be done for those that have time in longer than 20 years and haven't planned for retirement.
