I have been working at O.C. Tanner full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Warm and friendly people, genuinely want to do the right thing Autonomous and not micro managed Good pay and bonus Invest in bringing people together globally Strong sense of purpose and hanging on to the values from the founder Adapting to change and working hard to move from a Manufacturing business to a tech one, and a largely US company to a global one and you cant under estimate the challenges involved in doing both, so the company should be commended and given time to make adjustments as needed

    Cons

limited career opportunities Leadership is a bit of a mixed back in terms of progressive thinkers and blockers who don't like change (but all companies have this) Very very strong culture, you wont change it, or be welcome if you try, but if you align to it and feel part of it, thats a great thing... Can be slow to make things happen

    Advice to Management

If they had wanted it, they would have asked for it :) - honestly, the company is going through the biggest change in probably 50 years and so it wont all be plain sailing but I had a great 4 years and would recommend OC Tanner to anyone, provided they were at the right stage in their career.

    Pros

Company that really feels like it is going somewhere. Brave decisions by the UK leadership team already paying dividends. Strong culture, stable and real family feel. Incredible support from the US leadership team too.

    Cons

    Seriously... none come to mind!

    Advice to Management

Keep going and remember to never take criticism from anyone you would not seek advice from.

I worked at O.C. Tanner full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

*Good out of the box benefits - Easter Eggs, Christmas gifts etc. *Excellent purpose and values *Really talented colleagues around the world *Peer to peer recognition is incredible and meaningful

    Cons

*Lack of room for growth outside of the US *Senior management in the UK does not fight for European agenda *Values are not upheld in all regions *Facilities in Europe are terrible - especially compared to SLC offices *Colleagues in Europe feel scared to speak up and when they do their opinions are discredited *Individuals are not held accountable for failures in the European region

    Advice to Management

The leadership team in the US needs to take a closer look at the European operations. Good people are leaving and the buck on any issues is being placed on them. Those that don’t leave are frustrated and kept in lower level positions with little room for development. There is an impression of an ‘inner circle’ with senior European management and certain employees, which isolates and ostracises others. This is becoming a greater issue with new hires that will not challenge on what really matters to employees, but instead fall in line with what they are told. Whilst colleagues are amazing at appreciating one another, recognition is rarely given from the top down, unless it is to showcase an individual who is actually underperforming in a bid to try promote and justify their position. Whilst other international regions flourish under strong leadership (acquisition in Australia, India expanding to look after Middle East and Africa - which should really fall under European remit) this arm is on a downward trajectory and urgent actions need to be taken to address this. This channel is another example of trying to cover up some of the challenges this organisation faces in Europe when it should really be taken more seriously. It truly pains and upsets me to see this once, innovative, fun and family focused company deteriorating.

    I worked at O.C. Tanner full-time

    Pros

An amazing company that taught me a wealth of knowledge. The head office in Salt Lake City is bursting with inspirational, learned leaders that show true dedication to the beliefs of the company and its founder. The US teams are great teachers and lead with passion for what O.C. Tanner culture is. Sales and marketing teams in the US are top of class, are motivational and do all they can to help you succeed in Europe and beyond.

    Cons

Although the US are leading the way I feel the European head office isn’t following in its footsteps. Good people with exceptional potential are pushed to leave as they are not led well or appreciated, and are not offered any coaching. The recent change to roles was not communicated truthfully and lack of correct communication was avoided as difficult questions did not want to be answered by the leader of the European operation. This caused a lack of trust, low employee morale and key employees leaving the company. I loved working at OC Tanner initially but feel this once great, vibrant organisation needs more passion, a lot of work on culture (practice what you preach), and more time from the Corporate office to understand properly how your employees feel in Europe before it’s too late.

Spend some time learning more about how O.C. Tanner Europe employees feel and never assume that culture, people development and growth are priority on everyone’s business plan.

I worked at O.C. Tanner full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people are okay. The cafeteria is good. That is all.

    Cons

The pay is very low. Department consistently has to have meetings trying to convince people they aren’t being underpaid. I just think if you have to work that hard to justify you probably know you are doing something very wrong and lying. Justification is not professional. Leadership is not great. You either have incompetents that are checked out, or you have the club of mean girls who are only out for themselves and their favorites Favoritism is real. Just know that going in. It guides who they invest in and who they overlook. No career opportunity. Especially if you aren’t a favorite. Low pay. Don’t expect to make much.
