Poor management is causing burnout and high turnover
18 Nov 2022 - Probation/Parole Officer IIRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Flexible scheduling and self-motivated working, as long as you have a hands-off supervisor. The work can be vert fulfilling if you are invested in your job and want to help change peoples' lives. Job gives you a lot of connections across your county with law enforcement and providers for substance abuse and mental health.
Cons
The management within NCDPS is poor to say the least. Anyone at the district level and above are cold and unhelpful. They only have their own interests in mind and as someone at the bottom of the totem pole, your needs and wants will be unmet. Caselaods are insanely high, almost unmanageable, but as an officer you are still expected to do the same quality and quantity of work as if your caseload was half the size it actually is, and you will be punished if your work is not up to par even in such bad circumstances. Turnover rates are so high that many officers do not have the quality of training necessary to be effective in this position which just makes the caseloads that much more difficult. Pay is not what it should be given the cost of living going up so quickly in big cities in North Carolina

Job not hard but management and staff are an issue.
24 Jan 2023 - Correctional Behavioral Specialist II in Raleigh, NCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Job is easy. Work schedule is easy and flexible. Time off good Benefits are great.
Cons
The management allows certain staff to treat other staff in unprofessional manners however still have a job. Management does not hold supervisors accountable and allow supervisors to continue to mistreat their employees. Staff shortage is high and help is not coming in due to people not wanting to work for DAC. Salary could be better. The job is not hard. The staff makes it hard to do the job you were hired to do. And management lack of discipline or accountability is making the job harder.

Pros
Cheap healthcare if you are single with no dependents, State Pension
Cons
1. Understaffed, there was 1 CO per 200 inmates at times. Lots of call-outs lead to your 12 hr day turning into a 16-hour day. 2. Mandatory Uniforms and equipment were cheap and uncomfortable. 3. With Little to no support from management to the highest levels in the state, they are really quick to toss you to the wolves. 4. It's mandatory to be on site for a rollover brief 15-20 min before the shift starts which you arent getting paid for. 5. Long hiring process with low standards. 6. retained employees who can't perform their duties or those who break rules. 7. TERRIBLE PAY 8. TERRIBLE PAYROLL SYSTEMS

It’s prison…
19 Feb 2023 - Correctional Officer I in Raleigh, NCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
You can go anywhere and do anything in the system. You make good money for only working 14-15 days a month, plenty of time for another job. You also Have the opportunity to learn skills you can’t get anywhere else aside from active duty.
Cons
Nepotism, takes a long while to find a promotion unless you do so on someone else’s shoulders, or move around and no phones, tobacco or contact with real life for the shift.

Honest Personal Review
21 Nov 2022 - Corrections Officer II in Burgaw, NCRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Unlimited Overtime Allotted, OT Stacks with weekends, holidays, hazards, and days worked. Plus an increase of 2k to ones salary a year if prior military. As well as an opportunity to become an FTO to raise salary. You work two days then off two. weekends are given every other so, you can take two days off and have one week free to yourself.
Cons
It should pay more than what is the current base pay salary. Has a 12.25hr day minimum for shift that can hold you for up to 16 hours, also has a mandatory 3 days a month OT if needed. You are only paid once a month, Plus any overtime made is only given at the end of the following month (like 2 months). Hospital Duty usually is a 14.25 hr shift as well.
