I worked at MoneyGram International full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Pay is decent. A lot of PTO you can barely use it all.

    Cons

Company operates in silos and communication is poor. More responsibilities with no training or pay. Nothing to sell anymore since the company is moving more towards digital remittances.

    Advice to Management

Don’t let one person make all decisions. Plan for the future not just the next few months.

I have been working at MoneyGram International full-time

    Pros

This used to be a fantastic place to work. No longer so. Everyone I work with is looking for new employment.

    Cons

Executive leaders are inexperienced, arrogant, and are ruining the company. There is no transparency and people who speak up with differing opinions are fired. Money transfer is a dying industry and this executive team is not equipped to carry through. They are only in it to make money for themselves. They do not care about the employees.

    Advice to Management

Fire the CEO and COO before it's too late.

I worked at MoneyGram International full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Very work friendly environment and great colleagues from all over the world.

    Cons

HR job evaluation proceess strictly on line manger's recommendations, which could be misleading and personal. Really not showing an employees commitment to the company

    Advice to Management

A more proactive evaluation system should be put in place, that could reflect an employees strengths and weakness during the period in view. The line manger's recommendations could be appreciated but not final.

    Pros

Loved the diversity and the opportunity to work with different people from different countries.

    Cons

Bosses are just being there for some odd reasons but they are not true leaders.

    Advice to Management

I worked at MoneyGram International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice office and location. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Onboarding: The first 90 days are imperative for engagement - not just some click through videos. It would have been nice to see actual leaders answering questions and delivering perspective and tips on how to integrate. My direct manager said 10 words to me per week for about 6 months and during check ins provided little guidance. Then went into micromanagement mode with her whole team all at once - just grilling... us all basic projects that involved collaboration with inept teams that did not do their part. Whiplash leadership. Silos: The phrase "Welcome to Moneygram" was repeated about 63 times per day as certain departments continued to hold onto inept or tone deaf leaders and accept poor communication and collaboration. Everyone scrambled to make up for deficiencies. When leaders gossip about other leaders - it doesn't build trust in the culture. Overall poor internal communication with multiple departments re-creating the wheel without an understanding the 4 other departments were also working on solving for X. Super inefficient and disorganized. Classic hierarchical "CYA" behavior to make everything look pretty for the presentation, when products and leaders are not performing.

    Advice to Management

Set consistent performance and communication standards across the organization vs silos of micro-cultures that are enabled and seemingly entitled to poor performance or are notoriously hard to work with. Get some Organizational Development tools in place where titles and departments make logical sense, and there is actual talent in place vs outsourcing (marketing). Watch out for the insider trading! I... overheard a senior leader tell a team about investing a bunch of money in MG Stock, because "good things are about to happen - but you didn't hear it from me!!!" A month or 2 later MG integrated with a crypto currency provider and the stock price skyrocketed. Eliminate toxic leadership and "well that's just _____" attitudes of enabled bullying, ineptitude, and waste.
