I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, diversity & inclusion focus, international and multicultural, focus on giving back to the community

    Cons

promotion cycle too long and compensation not matching responsibilities; external candidates getting higher levels than employees in same role and with internal experience; process and procedure obsession can bring employees away from customer focus

    Advice to Management

take a stand to improve promotion cycle to give fairer and equal opportunities to staff; promote more flexibility and growth mindset across all the parts of the organisation

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company is amazing, strong and inspiring.

    Cons

There is a lot of favouritism to Egyptians. I don't know what is on the agenda on Niamh (STU), but seriously there is some bright in the other 74 countries of MEA to hire from. Diversity and Inclusion should have been ubiquitous, but when it comes to MEA, it is one nationality that does all from People Managers to Individual Contributors (and now their wives and husbands are being hired), and whenever there is an opening, you always hire someone from Egypt even if we will 6 months to get him in place.

    Advice to Management

    Diversity and Inclusion
    Diversify Nationalities
    More Africans for MEA markets
Quit your excel files and look to people around you

I have been working at Microsoft full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great atmosphere- good momentum with how Microsoft is doing as a business, and great employee ethos coming from the CEO, which is ingrained into the management of employees.

    Cons

Still very rigid in respect to career development. So much process! - tends to get in the way of the main thing (satisfying customers) of the job.

Salary is noncompetitive among other companies in Ireland.

    Advice to Management

Give us more freedom to drive projects and opportunities in the most efficient and effective way possible... there are too many forms, too much complexity built into workflows, just so operations can gain their insights... the priorities coming from line management change week after week as a result- this is too distracting.
