I have been working at MAC Cosmetics full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

So firstly I’m with Mac 5years as a retail artist. When you first start with them you are promised the world of artistry , plenty of career progression and a world of opportunities by the management. What you don’t realize is sadly this does not occur. The reality is you develop stress , anxiety and no social life! You work lates all the time due to understaffing on counter which they refuse to acknowledge! So full time staff are pushed beyond their limits! The management are fake and completely staged! They have their favorites who they socialize with outside of work! Very unprofessional! It’s extremely inconsiderate of staff who work beyond their limits! While others are the managers pets! Even any positions such as a pro artist or doing management! That all comes down to the manager who either is your best friend or either is jealous of you and begrudging! So you’ll never progress no matter how much experience you have it’s based on friends! Who’s in the clique! I say I’ve spent most days crying in there! You are constantly fed negativity by management! Pulled off the floor and given out to infront of customers passing by! Their favorite thing to do is pull you off the floor and give you grief about things that happened 2/3 weeks ago! It’s a horrid environment to be in! If you are a make up artist I’d advise avoiding! The brand is far from artistry! It’s only all sales and stress! The customers we get are the most vicious you’ll ever encounter! It’s overall full of stress and negativity! Most staff end up taking time off it’s that bad!

    Cons

The discount is the only benefit!Brown Thomas is a nice store to work in

I worked at MAC Cosmetics full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The staff generally are amazing and supportive of each other, brown thomas itself is lovely to work in, learning to deal with different clients etc

    Cons

Discount is nothing like in mac America, some managers cause an atmosphere or of pressure, criticism of appearance (nothing to do with macs guidelines) Constant "meetings" about performance but little real support, At training they make it seem you will actually have artistry rotation however on the shop floor never possible (except if your a manager or a favourite of the manager heading out on a Saturday night you'll do "artistry rotation" Constantly seeing staff in tears from nit picking- managers and visiting managers stand in corners glaring whilst your with a customer and then send the supervisors over with their notes (as if nothing else to be doing) Managers will be like hawks going around waiting to catch you out ease dropping on conversations with customers waiting on you to say something wrong

    Pros

Amazing products. Inspiring training Free products Lovely team

    Cons

Awful work/life balance due to unsociable hours Almost impossible to progress, if you want to be a trainer you could be waiting at least 5-10 years with no guarantee Pay-freeze so stuck on same low wage no matter how long you are there Increasing competition from newer brands and online shopping means targets are very unachievable
