I worked at M&G plc full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great investment in technology and digital transformation New Building Introduction to flexible working

    Cons

Too many layers of management - only a handful have the management/ leadership skills required to do the job Toxic working environment in certain areas of the business - daily bullying and harassment are a norm HR are unreliable, will not help employees and will always protect management A lot of internal mobility which unfortunately results in a lot of incompetent people being placed at unsuitable for them... positions The internal application/interview process is not consistent for all employees The company used to attract much better caliber of candidates Lack of management support for Learning and Development (apart from the CFA) Employees career interests and aspirations are not taken into account and management are only concerned with what suits the business Employees are expected to take orders from management despite being encouraged to express their opinions Frequent instances of micromanagement Educated, experienced and competent people are often overworked to compensate for the below average hires The company has good values on paper but they are just facade to cover up what is really going on behind the scenes

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes and look after your good employees. Aim for a structure where Management does not talk down on employees. Attract and hire high caliber candidates who contribute to the creation of an intellectually stimulating environment. Listen to employees at all levels, support their learning ambitions and treat them with respect. Your people are and always will be your most valuable asset, make them feel like... they are part of this and that they belong.

I worked at M&G plc full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Experienced and high quality staff. Good pay, benefits and terms. Successful business which is highly profitable. Investment professionals from M&G are excellent. Significant investment in technology and digital has improved work environment. New building at 10 Fenchurch Avenue is fabulous and enables agile working practices

    Cons

New management from BT in Ops and Technology are bringing BT style programme/project management practices which have curtailed progressive and successful agile implementation in favour of more command and control style PMO managed Change/Transformation function. Mindset is more on outsourcing vs. developing the excellent in house teams.

    Advice to Management

Trust and value the excellent people you have. Learn to be humble. Understand what made this company what it is and build on that.
