        Pros

Kaiser is a great place to work and build a career over time. In my experience salaries are above market for most positions, and the benefits are so good that many people become "lifers". The health coverage is extremely generous, and time off starts off adequate and gets better over time (18 days when you start, moving up to 33 after 15+ years - this does not include sick time). Employees truly believe in the mission of KP (at least, I do) and it's clear that this is a place where employees' contributions are valued. Although my role is not part of any of the unions, the fact that our workforce is predominantly unionized also places a positive role in KP's reputation as a good place for workers (although having unionized staff also presents many challenges). Overall, I enjoy working at KP and would recommend it to others, but understand that you are entering a big bureaucracy. A friendly, mission-driven bureaucracy, but still.

        Cons

Cons: having lots of "lifers" means that innovative ideas and workflows are not always adopted without a fight. People have their roles deeply embedded here, and any threat to the status quo is seen as negative, even though we need to make some pretty radical changes given the new health care environment post-ACA. There's a lot of "not my job" attitudes here. It's hard to navigate the layers of bureaucracy, both in terms of personnel/HR/benefits, and in getting work done (there are often 4-5 departments at the regional and national KP levels working on similar areas, and no guidance on who does what.) Be aware that KP is not immune to reorganizations and layoffs -- they do make a good attempt to ensure workers are hired elsewhere in the organization, but there are no guarantees, and there can be a lot of turnover in certain departments. Benefits are currently generous but are always subject to downgrades in the future, so just be aware of that. Some changes to the pension and retiree medical benefits are about to hit, and with them a wave of Baby Boomers will be taking retirement, which should hopefully open up many new management opportunities for Millennials. Oh, and the biggest con of all: we still - STILL - use Lotus Notes for email. Shocking, I know, but true.

          Pros

Depending on your role, you may be able to make a decent salary (not great) but decent and work life balance. Great pto benefits

          Cons

If you’re not in a directorship or senior manager position and live in California, you won’t get paid enough to live a quality lifestyle . Many employees end up moving out of state to keep job stability as opposed to leaving KP for better pay. The pay is very low compared to other companies Projects take years to complete Unnecessary amount of meetings Depending on what kind of projects you are working for in the Org, you may end up having to work around the clock Way too many people at the leadership level and not enough people to get the actual work done Major disconnect between senior leadership, the work being done and the work that is possible given the money they are not willing to spend As a result , the work culture has become stale and toxic A lot of unhappy stressed out people who hate their jobs are who you interact with daily and you will end up hating this more than anything else

            Pros

Management can be hit or miss. I've had terrible, micro-managers who were me superiors, but also had lovely, hands-off managers. I've also had in-between project managers that want to know every little thing you are doing. Also: the healthcare benefits are great!

            Cons

PTO is not great at all unless you've worked here for 10 years or more. You get "sick" time but they tap into 3 vacation days first before using your sick time. By the time you have a sick day, you are required to give a doctor's note to use it. Basically, you never use it. You accumulate about 14 hours a month you first year, then 17 hours a month years 2-5. Not that great. Additionally, in research department we work with nurses who work four 10-hour shifts. We work together. However, research associates cannot. I don't think it's fair, personally.

                Pros

Union/steward representation (if you like unions), seniority, benefits, ability to bid on jobs in other depts after 6mons (if you don't like your job)

                Cons

Pt complaints of feeling like an 'assembly line' have been a long-time issue, it's quantity over quality every time. PC dr's have 4-6 pt's every hour, are allotted MAYBE 7mins to connect with their pt & that time is spent with their face in the computer, charting so they don't peeve the upper masters. 'Do more with less' has been the motto for its employees for a long while. Employees also call the job 'golden handcuffs', used to pay great & awesome benefits (nearly/free under union contract). When contractual time rolls around, we always get to see just how much KP does NOT care about their employees, or pts for that matter.

No benefits for perdiem employees yet most work 30-40 hours per week, seniority is everything in Kaiser so lazy employees get away with everything.

Do you experience that how long the hiring process would take at Thermo Fisher? I got my second interview with hiring manager at the beginning of November but I haven’t heard nothing from them. When I’ve emailed them to check in they just said that the process would be slow, no time frame. I would be able to get an offer soon from other company but work as contractor. Should I wait for Thermo Fisher?

                      Alex L.

Applied for a job a few weeks back, got a call from HR yesterday morning about an interview next week. She mentioned she'd shoot me an email with all the interview details, but so far, my inbox is empty. Assuming I'll hear from her early next week, is it normal for them to expect me to show up for an in-person interview on short notice, like couple days?
