I worked at John Hancock full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Freedom to work in markets and with people that interest you. Joint work with colleagues to increase your skills and increase closure rate.

    Cons

You often feel that you are working without a net to catch you if you fall. The pressure of working in a 100% commission environment is challenging and often drives you to question whose best interest you are serving.

    Advice to Management

Really need to reconsider your compensation structure and not make promises that you can't keep

I worked at John Hancock for less than a year

    Pros

John Hancock Financial Network will make sure that you have the training to get you moving in the right direction with best practices. The sales process that is taught really does work and will reap rewards for you if you are disciplined enough to learn it. Unlimited income potential with a solutions oriented approach to helping clients reach their financial goals.

    Cons

Lengthy time getting your business up and running. They do have great marketing ideas, however, you must have the working capital saved up to implement the strategies. You must be prepared ahead of time to be a good bulletin board for the company.

    Advice to Management

More coordinated joint work for newer people to work with people who are successful in the company.

    I worked at John Hancock

    Pros

John Hancock is one of the leaders in the insurance business and they set up local offices to sell products. The Charlotte office is easy to get to. From a sales standpoint you make you schedule everything yourself. and make your own appointments. The money you make is based on how hard you work, and what type of network you have. It is not a bad first job in the industry. They do match non-profit gifts and... also pay for your licenses.

    Cons

The training at the Charlotte office was pretty poor, and you didn't get to learn about the industry as a whole. In the interview they tell you that you can be a full blown financial advisor; however, they really just want you to sell insurance, as that is how they make the most money. Management was all over the place and you do not recieve any health benefits.

    Advice to Management

Offer renewals on products and treat the employees like you care. Make a business plan together and don't just throw the sales agent under the bus.

    I worked at John Hancock

    Pros

    - run your own business - you make what you kill. pretty much gives you the freedom and ability to make as much as you'd like or as little as you'd like.

    Cons

    - incompetent senior managers - no support whatsoever from management - management shows favoritism. you're either the "cool" kids or you're an outsider

    Advice to Management

see all the cons above and use it to improve! management needs to change drastically. the turnover rate at this specific office is really high.
