I worked at Japan Tobacco International

    Pros

JTI was a great place to work, where employees are genuinely looked after and given the opportunity to express themselves and work to their skillset.

    Cons

Industry is under pressure and constantly felt by all at a low level

    Advice to Management

Share departmental re-structuring plans more openly.

    Pros

Quite good work-life balance, good for juniors

    Cons

extremely long and slow approval processes. a lot of unnecessary meetings and work that leads nowhere. Only brown nosers are promoted. Many high skilled professionals has left the company due to incompetent managers. HR and Finance is hell...

    Advice to Management

Management do not care about their teams, their do care only about own property.

I have been working at Japan Tobacco International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Large budget behind projects Skilled and knowledgeable staff Great pay and excellent benefits Cut some of the fluff in middle-management out

    Cons

Company is great to employees on paper only. JTI often misleads when it comes to employee ability to work from home, office locations and internal changes. Things are never concrete, and you never quite know where you stand in the company. Micro-management is rampant. Decisions are sometimes made without full thought process, I've seen many multiple month and year-long projects scrapped upon the first presentation over simple logic. Terrible work/life balance.

    Advice to Management

We're a small organization with a big attitude, drop the self-importance and be honest with employees and recruits.

I worked at Japan Tobacco International full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

International assignment policy Rich budgets Nice colleagues Nice offices

    Cons

Very limited career opportunities Unfairness in applying rules/policies Extremely political environment Inconsistent approach to people development Missed global integration

    Advice to Management

Be honest, be fair with people, start leading by example and stop devoting all your energies to self-promotion and lobbying. Big part of your workforce is disengaged and scared, and advertising your last Top Employer award will not help. HR must learn to do its job, be more professional and humble.

I have been working at Japan Tobacco International

    Pros

Food in the canteen and facilities like the gym

    Cons

Terrible atmosphere and a deluded management trying to implement an old business model designed for IT (sold by McKinsey). Packages are less favorable as they have decided not to include a tobacco premium anymore while keeping the business very much focused on cigarettes.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the fat-cats and make some real changes among yourself.
