    Pros

Opportunity to work with talented journalists and editors Looks good on CV Compensation is fair

    Cons

    Advice to Management

Read the cons above. Communicate more. Give employees something to believe in; empower them to be their best. Be more open and transparent. Ask yourself: "If you were an employee and not management, would you work there?" If the answer is no, look to find out why.

    "Disgusting place to work"

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO

I worked at Independent News full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    There are no pros here

    Cons

That place is full of bullies at all levels and such behaviors are supported and actively practiced by the management team, which doesn't seem to get appointed based on merit or abilities but has to be that kind of specimen to fit in the company's culture. Sadly, there is also some nice people there that have spent their whole professional life within the company. If you are looking for a position in media I... strongly recommend you to do so elsewhere.

I have been working at Independent News full-time

    Pros

Good exposure to interesting work. Good work life balance.

    Cons

Pressurised industry for newspapers. Investment in people not prioritised and becomes obvious. Lack of focus and clear lack of belief that culture and communication from management important. Leads to culture of rumours and gossipping about possible changes. Cutbacks in resources but just expected that same workload will get done within team, don't care how or if feasible. Short termist in strategy and performance... measurement. Not an environment where you can expect your work to speak for itself.

    Advice to Management

This is a top down problem that has trickled down through the hierarchy over the years. Poor management styles from "the good days" has infected the company to the core

I have been working at Independent News for less than a year

    Pros

When I'm on my way home from work

    Cons

The prisoners in Guantanamo Bay get treated better than the workers in the Independent. They are conning the readers of the final Evening Herald. The Evening Herald is now being printed along side the printing of the Irish Independent and it is being delivered to the newsagents at the same time as the Irish Independent. Therefore it is not a final edition Evening paper. The public is getting conned. Staff are being... let go and still make profits of millions a year.

    Neutral Outlook
    No Opinion of CEO

I worked at Independent News full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There are many good people working at INM. The job of a journalist is interesting and still matters, and INM titles provide a very visible platform for journalists

    Cons

There is very little left of the collaborative nature of journalism at INM. Many very good, senior journalists have left in recent years as a result of cutbacks and changes which have significantly degraded the quality of the company's print and digital publications. There is no career pathway in editorial and opportunities for genuine progression are limited

    Advice to Management

For many years there has been a culture of cuts at INM. You have been harvesting your products for years. It would benefit your products to invest in journalism — and specifically talented journalists.

    Pros

Very few to mention, in fact can't think of any. However if you are your manager's boot licker then it's a different ball game.

    Cons

Loads - Right from abuse from seniors, open humiliations, misbehaviours, exploitations it's an endless list. No one in the business is ready to listen to your problems. Be my stooge or I'll turn your life into hell is the message from the senior management.

    Advice to Management

Be bit sympathetic to your employees. They are your workers not slaves.
