I worked at House of Fraser part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good environment, pleasant space and facilities, great atmosphere and dynamic between staff across the board.
    Loads of opportunity to progress.
Decent pay and benefits, time off etc.
Staff discount throughout store and online, occasional incentives for targets.

    Cons

Procedure doesn't consider common sense, no wiggle room for emergencies (i.e. sick cover=major understaffing issues)
Poor management of labour, sometimes chronically overstaffed, equally as likely to be chronically understaffed, never seemed to get this quite right.
Poor communication with concession managers and HoF advisors, concession managers generally getting away with circumventing company procedures on a regular basis.

    Advice to Management

I think you do a brilliant job, I wish you were given more direct control over rosters and hours, and more staff to work with! I think all issues can be traced to rigid procedures without proper review.

I worked at House of Fraser part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Really lovely environment, great people to work with. Worked in the ladies wear under a brand. Even though you have your separate shops, everyone was close and friendly. We all had a great relationship!

    Cons

    Facilities.
There weren't enough lockers for everyone.
No access to water on the floor, even in cupboards, small rooms. Even in summer.
    Security watch everything you do.

    Advice to Management

None really. Management were all lovely people. So easy to speak with.

    Pros

Great pay package and really good staff discount as a perk. Good envirnoment with a positive co-worker ethos. Excellent shift spread and very conscious of labour laws

    Cons

Very top-down structure with very limited scope for lower level employees to bring ideas to the table. This has the capacity to create a negative work atmosphere, especially as some change comes about with zero consultation.

    Advice to Management

My advice would be to foster a better culture in store whereby employees, who are those charged with selling product and interfacing with customers, have more opportunity to tell management their views on how the business could do these things better.
