I have been working at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt full-time for more than a year

    Pros

As a working parent with 2 small kids I felt the entire HMH Leadership really stepped up for everyone during Covid19. Trying to balance working from, while your kids demand your attention was really stressful at first. Management and senior leaders across the company showed lots of flexibility and understanding, allowing us to get the balance right and everyone keep their jobs. We had lots of townhalls and weekly calls with Senior Leaders across the company. I love our CEO’s weekly spotlight on successes videos that recognize people from across the company that have made a difference. The health and wellness initiatives really helped. I feel really proud working for a company that genuinely cares, and puts its employees first.

    Cons

Maybe one thing was more specific help or guidance around ergonimics and health & safety working from home.

I worked at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great people to work with Lots of social events Great location

    Cons

As a large company it's hard to impact process change Projects are ran via committee which makes for a lot of meetings and lots of confusion over decision making Lots of people have been with the company a long time so there's not a lot of room for career progression

I have been working at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

HMH has an incredibly powerful mission - to change student's lives through learning and education - making education fun, meaningful and equitable and I work in developing enabling technologies for that mission. I've been super impressed with how truthful our leadership have remained to that mission in our current challenging environment with Covid-19. I've seen a willingness to investigate novel ways to keep education alive, and accessible - and the ability to adapt our roadmaps and plans to keep true to the end goal. I am proud to be part of HMH.

    Cons

    No major cons to report!

I have been working at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I joined the company just a bit ago but my experience so far has been very good, despite joining during the Coronavirus lockdown. The company has been always good to communicate things quickly and clearly from the very early interview stage on. The communication with team members and management is done in a friendly and respectful way and the salary is good. QAs are treated as engineers and giving many opportunities to leverage their coding skills. There's also flexibility for one's starting and ending times.

    Cons

None so far. All good overall.

I have been working at Houghton Mifflin Harcourt full-time for less than a year

    Pros

A supportive working environment. Everyone is approachable and friendly when help is needed. Emphasis on a "Get it right" mentality. The team is always pushed to finish a task correctly and are never forced to deliver a half finished product. A strong team mentality means you write and contribute quality code regularly. The work is rewarding and there is a good work life balance.

    Cons

None that I can think of.
