I worked at Guardian News & Media for more than a year

    Pros

Strong company values. The CEO and Editor in Chief do a good job of sharing information at key points. Nice office space. Get to work with modern technology. Some truly talented and passionate people.

    Cons

Many people are poor performers but it’s never challenged. There are a number of strong individuals who just end up taking the strain, but this isn’t sustainable and is resulting in good people leaving. Nothing is written down making it impossible to ramp up new starters and keep track of progress. Senior management micro-manage and are comfortable making decisions without data to back them up.

I have been working at Guardian News & Media

    Pros

    - Incredible, world-renowned brand - Great people to work with - Nice offices, great location - Work can be very interesting - Opportunities to get involved with lots if you want to - Very flexible working conditions, some might even say too flexible (the amount of staff that don't work Fridays is quite staggering) - Very good work life balance

    Cons

    - Just had a huge round of redundancies, with more probably coming - Losing money. Fast. - Rudderless senior management with no real accountability - Constantly changing strategy - Very heavy meeting based culture - Utterly obsessed with other companies and trying to copy what they do rather than focus on the Guardian’s own unique strengths - Only progression opportunity comes from staff above you leaving and even then they favour hiring from an external company they can PR

I worked at Guardian News & Media full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Nice relaxed culture with a few good people. Offices are very nice. Work was challenging at times with varied projects/programs.

    Cons

To many long term employees that do no work and a lack of strong senior management has led to complacency. Very much an attitude of "if it ain't broke don't fix it".

    Pros

Fantastic people to work with from a commercial perspective. Great brand to talk to advertisers about, very interesting business.

    Cons

Hugely political, un-collaborative, poor senior management, lack of leadership, no coherent vision or strategy for the future. In the midst of a civil war...
