Former Employee - Advisory Manager in New York, NY

I worked at Grant Thornton full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Company has been renovating its offices across the country to make the environment more open, fun (e.g., foosball tables), and competitive to tech companies (e.g., free soda, free ice cream) - Company began implementing new management training and professional development courses in 2018, although these still have some room for improvement - Compared to other Accounting/Advisory firms, the work life balance is slightly better, although this can vary by team - Company spent a lot of money in 2017-2018 to re-define and rollout a new culture; however, the implementation and embodiment of this new culture varies significantly across offices, teams, and individuals

    Cons

    - Compensation is not competitive - HR recently began implementing new professional development programs; however, many of the upper management members who have been with the firm for years did not go through this and do not embody the teachings in the new program - Culture and skill sets varies significantly depending on office and team

    Advice to Management

Conduct another market study/adjustment on compensation. Relook at the top layers of management, as the "new culture" is not followed or embodied by many there, making the environment poisonous at times
