I worked at Freepoint Commodities as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Everybody was very friendly, and because of the open trading floor there were many opportunities to meet and interact with higher-ups in the company to develop my understanding of the commodities trading industry

    Cons

The work was not very engaging in my department, and there was lack of formal instruction to the requirements of the job. More of a 'sink-or-swim' environment.

    Advice to Management

Continue developing the intern training program! Maybe outline some goals or a schedule for interns to adhere to. This will give interns a better idea of the expectations of their job.

I worked at Freepoint Commodities full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - decent Base pay
    - free lunch
    - fully paid medical
    - decent vacation days but you can't take them all. it's frowned upon

    Cons

    - Work culture is terrible
    - No career growth
    - They expect you to work 10+ hours even if there isn't work for more than 2 hours a day. so if you just sit in front of the computer and browse, they are happy
    - No meritocracy or looking for a best solution to any problem
    - you will have to work with lots of dicks around
    - I can go on and on....to be succinct... if you must, take the job, take it. but do find a better one and move on quickly. anyone with good technical abilities can easily get thru' the interview. the interview process is laughable.

    Advice to Management

Nothing that I can say change anything here. I'll save myself the trouble.

I have been working at Freepoint Commodities full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

free lunches, 0 cost health care (although sub par coverage). Low / Easy work load.

    Cons

biggest complaint is transparency - of which there is none. management continually fails to guide expectations and only holds company meetings in ad-hoc infrequent sessions (2 so far in the history of the company, of which one occurred after they dismissed a large percentage of staff)

no career progression, difficult to communicate with a large percentage of staff, very tumultuous and unstable environment.

the biggest drawback is the lack of mentors who are interested in your personal and career growth.

    Advice to Management

Better communication and oversight of your business would lead to less attrition.
