    Pros

The staff canteen at St-Prex is excellent. Some functions treat their staff quite well, rewarding them with development, promotions etc. IT is not one of those functions. The work/life balance is generally regarded as good.

    Cons

The company is plagued by slow and poor decision making, no fresh ideas, no drive, politics everywhere, bureaucracy, big egos and on top of it all, certain people are protected no matter what they do. The times are changing and top management is lost - they are more focused on their retirement plans than long-term success. Too many people in the middle tier of management are characterised by large egos, power... struggles, mediocre performance and poor decision making. The ability to ignore the elephant in the corner of the room is astonishing at Ferring - it has almost evolved into an art form. It probably should be put onto job ads as a necessary competence for joining the company. Ferring does not have a strategy. This is called “entrepreneurship” and is regarded as a strength! Others might call it directionless. There is plenty of room for an interesting Harvard Business Review case study here. Initiative is crushed because change is seen as threatening - don't try and rock the boat. Unless, of course, you’re one of the “special people”. Progression is very uneven across functions. Some departments have many directors and above and people can progress. Other departments have very flat structures and they pride themselves on not promoting people because that saves money. If you’re in one of the latter departments you’re in trouble because chances are very high that you’ll go nowhere. A common theme is that the people who are promoted are those that play the political game.

    Advice to Management

Executive management: retire. You’ve had your fun and made your money, now let a younger and more vital generation take over. Middle management: think about the company rather than yourself for a moment - you might find the change refreshing.

I have been working at Ferring Pharmaceuticals full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Small Company that doesn’t answer to stock holders( Significant if you’ve worked in BIG Pharma). Does well to listen to employees’ wants and needs.

    Cons

The salary is slightly under for a specialty company/position in most business units. Manage Care negotiating/pricing is sub-par.
