I worked at European Investment Fund full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good work-life balance Wide opportunities for networking Relative flexibility in regard to projects and focus one could take

    Cons

European fiscal expansion disguised as an investment firm Salary is adequate for a EU institution but not competitive in the investment sphere Heavy bureaucracy Zero leadership Senseless waste of taxpayers money on the bloated organisation Adverse effect on less developed markets

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at European Investment Fund full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Holidays (to the extend you are allowed to take them and your manager is not being difficult) are worth it

    Cons

Limited career progression; Salary unable to maintain purchasing power based on average annual salary increase (2.2%) vs inflation in Luxembourg; tension to promote staff that is agreeable to management (tends to avoid highlighting potential issues; tends to please other services by avoiding filtering how reasonable requests might be; is not vocal about issues which are worth raising); some senior staff tend to impose their views on other staff (even from other services) - this results often in staff cutting corners; often long hours + weekends without this being compensated (either by allowing staff to get flexis or by reflecting this in the bonus)

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at European Investment Fund for less than a year

    Pros

Very diverse, young and international environment. Friendly personnel. Flexible hours. Very good for building personal networks. Recommended for who wants to work in Legal, Compliance, Front Office and administrative jobs.

    Cons

A bit too static and slow moving. Little incentive to be creative and push one's self. Not much room for building a career. Not much scope for economics or finance related jobs.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at European Investment Fund for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay if you don't have a lot of experience.

    Cons

Grew too fast, inefficient, has no strategy, absurd team split (no COO...), no on the job training (but loads of "external/theoretical training), little team cooperation, terrible IT systems, manages to be overly burocratic without controlling its products design.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at European Investment Fund full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    1) A truly multi-cultural place: people speak on average 3/4 languages, almost all of them with international and dynamic backgrounds; 2) Brilliant people; 3) More dynamic than pure EU institutions (EC, EIB, etc); 4) Great work-life balance.

    Cons

Sometimes it still feels like a bureaucratic institutional environment, especially at mgmt level. Decisions are often "political".
