I have been working at European Investment Fund for less than a year

    Pros

Very diverse, young and international environment. Friendly personnel. Flexible hours. Very good for building personal networks. Recommended for who wants to work in Legal, Compliance, Front Office and administrative jobs.

    Cons

A bit too static and slow moving. Little incentive to be creative and push one's self. Not much room for building a career. Not much scope for economics or finance related jobs.

    Advice to Management

Internships and traineeships should be more diversified and give an overall idea of EIF's business instead of specialising in specific tasks. Openings should be more transparent and better describe the nature of the job.

    Negative Outlook

I worked at European Investment Fund for more than a year

    Pros

Good pay if you don't have a lot of experience.

    Cons

Grew too fast, inefficient, has no strategy, absurd team split (no COO...), no on the job training (but loads of "external/theoretical training), little team cooperation, terrible IT systems, manages to be overly burocratic without controlling its products design.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at European Investment Fund full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    1) A truly multi-cultural place: people speak on average 3/4 languages, almost all of them with international and dynamic backgrounds; 2) Brilliant people; 3) More dynamic than pure EU institutions (EC, EIB, etc); 4) Great work-life balance.

    Cons

Sometimes it still feels like a bureaucratic institutional environment, especially at mgmt level. Decisions are often "political".

    Advice to Management

Keep the structure as lean and simple as possible. Get inspiration from private sector practices. Deep dive on how the massive amount of data EIF has can be turned into economic (profits) and societal (impact) value.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at European Investment Fund full-time

    Pros

Good pay, good holidays, nice canteen, friendly colleagues, multinational environment.

    Cons

Demotivated and uncooperative environment, lack of ambition to innovate, automate or challenge the status quo. Incompetent management promoted based on years of service. No coaching nor learning. Lack of fun and energy. Underused human capital, people with talent frustrated doing tedious non value added activities. Lack of meritocratic culture.

    Advice to Management

Promote to leadership roles based on merits and push forward leaders who can guide the organization and put the talent available within the organization to good use. Challenge the status quo and seek ways to operate more effectively.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at European Investment Fund for less than a year

    Pros

Great facilities (buildings, cantine, after-hour activities), friendly staff and good pay.

    Cons

Inefficiency is a real problem, cross-departmental works progress very slowly.

    Advice to Management

I believe the fund should be run like a private company rather than a public institutions with better incentives and strict management. Employees are of high quality and impressive backgrounds, but the quality of the work produced is mediocre.
