      Development Advisor view of EI

      Pros

Flexitime and generous annual leave package (29 days at Level D) - this is a great workplace to balance family or personal commitments with professional ambition. No expectation to work outside core hours - those who are passionate about their role do so with no pressure from management. Very experienced and educated team around you who are not motivated by money - they want to make a difference. Great opportunity to feel like you are making a difference to client companies and to network with the who's-who of Irish business.

      Cons

HR practices can be unprofessional. For example, lack of communication and long response time when discussing a new role, many colleagues also cite a lack of clarity or fairness around interview processes (e.g. "that job spec was written with Sheila in mind" etc). Lack of support and training for management means they are often inexperienced at leading and motivating people which is going to really affect you if you are a young person joining the organisation. There is a negative outlook among many long-serving staff members. EI is quite hierarchical, without a culture of feedback or debate.

      Pros

International outlook. Interaction with client companies. Investment in training for graduate staff. Support from government and government agencies to achieve shared goals. Colleagues supportive and decent for the most part.

      Cons

A civil service mentality is still prevalent in some areas of the organisation. Slow moving at times. There was a lot of focus on teams achieving certain metrics but I wasn't always convinced they were the right metrics.
